4 Signs You May Need Bariatric Surgery

Posted on April 20, 2016 at 9:12 AM by Iowa Weight Loss Specialists

Everyone deserves to live a happy, and healthy, life. Your weight should not dictate the things you can and cannot do.

So if you, or someone you know, is suffering from one or more of the following, it may be time to consider looking into the gastric sleeve surgery, which removes around 75% of a person’s stomach, significantly reducing appetite for long-term weight loss.

  1. Your Weight is Affecting Your Everyday Life. If your weight is inhibiting you from playing with your children, being social or effectively working a job, it may be time to consider weight loss surgery. If you find you get winded walking up stairs and doing everyday activities, this is a sign your weight is affecting your health.
  2. Health Concerns. Are you suffering from sleep apnea, Type 2 diabetes, heart disease or other serious health conditions? Excess weight plays a significant role in the increase in risk of these serious, long-term health conditions and can decrease one’s life expectancy. If you suffer from one or more of these health concerns and are overweight or obese, you should consider weight loss surgery. Bariatric surgery has actually been shown in medical studies to be an effective treatment for Type 2 diabetes.
  3. You’ve Tried Everything. Whether is be a personal trainer or countless gym memberships to every kind of diet on the market, if you’ve tried it all and have not been able to lose (or keep off) excess weight, it’s time to consider weight loss surgery. Diet and exercise alone are not effective for losing excess weight. In fact, only 1% of individuals who diet and exercise are able to keep off their excess weight. Most people gain back as much or more from dieting.
  4. You Want to Start a Family. Losing even 10 lbs. can help increase fertility in both men and women, and for women who are overweight or obese, losing that excess weight can also decrease fetal complications during pregnancy.

If any of the above applies to you and you’re ready to make a change, we encourage you to register for one of our free classes to learn more and talk with our experienced team of weight loss professionals!
