Surgery is a big decision. So when it came to finding a hospital to partner with for our weight-loss surgical program, there were many factors we needed to consider. Some of these factors included the look and feel of the facilities, before and after surgery patient care, nurse to patient ratio and attentiveness, cleanliness, room set-up, customer service scores, and others.
At Iowa Weight Loss Specialists, our main concern is our patient’s care and that they see success with our weight loss programs. We were committed to finding a partner hospital that felt the same way.
After reviewing numerous hospitals in Central Iowa, we came to the absolute conclusion that the best hospital for our patients was Iowa Specialty Hospital located in Belmond, IA. For some of our patients, it’s a bit of a drive so we often get the question: “What makes Iowa Specialty Hospital so great? Why is it worth the drive?”
Iowa Specialty Hospital has a quality-based national accreditation from DNV Healthcare based on its dedication to exceptional patient care and safety. This accreditation is proof of the long-term commitment the providers, staff, and administration have made to patient safety and overall quality of care.
This past July, the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services’ (CMS) gave Iowa Specialty Hospital a 5-star rating. Iowa Specialty Hospital in Belmond and Clarion were two of only 251 hospitals across the country to receive a 5-star summary rating.
In addition to this recent achievement, Iowa Specialty Hospital has received numerous awards from the region’s top healthcare ranking institutions for patient satisfaction and service.
Recently, Healthcare Executive Magazine interviewed Steve Simonin, FACHE and CEO of Iowa Specialty Hospitals & Clinics, on leadership and “Putting Patients at the Center of Care”.
As Simonin stated in his interview, “Leading a hospital isn’t just about protecting margins. It’s about working really, really hard to provide awesome quality and excellent service to those who put their trust in you for their care. It’s about being as great as you know you can be as an organization. And it’s about defining success not in terms of margins, but whether your patients come away from your hospital with positive outcomes and a feeling of being loved and cared for by a great group of people.”
Just a few of the services offered to each of our patients at the hospital include:
• Massages and take home bag that includes protein samples and other helpful information post-surgery
• State-of-the-art patient rooms that are spacious enough for family members to stay with the patient comfortably
• 1-to-5 nurse patient ratio, so you know you’re getting dedicated care
We couldn’t be happier with our decision and the great partnership we’ve developed with Iowa Specialty Hospitals. In fact, Steve Simonin was even one of our first surgical patients, which truly says a lot about his leadership.
