What is your Weight Loss Philosophy?
I believe that every patient’s story is significant and important, and all patients deserve an individualized plan and approach to weight loss. Weight loss, for many individuals is key in improving overall health. My goal as a weight loss provider is to effectively help people with achieving and sustaining an overall better quality of life.
What is the most difficult part of a weight loss or health improvement plan?
Consistency. Diet culture has done an excellent job of ingraining an all-or-nothing approach when it comes to weight loss. If we cannot give 100% we are lead to defeated frustration and give 0%. What most people fail to acknowledge is the small, sustainable steps along the way that also count! If you’re on a program that feels too good to be true, it probably is. Weight loss that is sustainable is steady, slow and behavior-focused. There will be challenging days and there will be easy days, but look at the big picture and the steps along the way.
What Specific Advice Would you Offer Anyone Trying to Lose Weight and Become Healthier?
Be honest with yourself. Take a look at your current behaviors and habits and determine which are contributing to the healthy lifestyle you would like to attain. If certain behaviors are not helpful, what is holding you back from changing them? Address the barriers as you feel ready and capable. Some changes may be very uncomfortable to start, but turn into something you actually enjoy. Remember that each small change you can make and sustain will lead to results. It may not always be in the time frame you expect, but stay consistent. If you are having trouble with consistency, change it! Always remember that your team at Iowa Weight Loss is a phone call or message away. We love to get creative and help in any way we can to help you achieve your goals!
