What made you decide to come to our medical weight loss program? I was uncomfortable in my own body and ashamed of myself. I finally told myself that enough was enough. I wanted to be healthy not only for myself but for my wife and kids. I needed to make a lifestyle change, not just try a "diet!"
How long did it take for you to decide to be seen by us? It took a few weeks and chatting with my primary care doctor before I finally asked for a referral.
How has weight loss altered your outlook on life, your emotions, and/or relationships? I am much more comfortable with my body and have gained back a lot of the confidence that I lost for a while.
What would you say about your provider and their team? I am so thankful to Dr. Lisboa and all the staff! They are never judgmental and are so supportive! They understand that weight loss is a hard process and is different for everyone.
What would you tell someone who is considering making an appointment? MAKE THE APPOINTMENT!
Is there any additional information you would like to share? I think a common misconception about weight loss clinics is that you have to be “morbidly obese” to go or that the only thing they do is weight loss surgery. This is a lie because I did not get surgery and was not considered “morbidly obese.” It has been SO helpful going to a clinic where they specialize in weight loss and create plans for YOU. I love meeting with a doctor and nutritionist regularly who help specialize a plan catered to my goals. This has made a huge difference! It has also given me 2 more people to be accountable to at follow-up visits…in addition to my amazingly supportive wife! I also love that at every visit you use the Body Comp analysis scale to track not only my weight but also make sure I'm only losing fat while gaining muscle! It can be super frustrating to only use a scale and not see your actual progress with fat and muscle (you might think you’re not losing weight, but really you are losing fat and building muscle). I am currently down about 46 pounds and still going strong! Most importantly, through this journey, I feel like I understand my body now more than ever when it comes to eating and exercising. I am now more motivated than ever to go to the gym and eat better and can feel a difference if I don't or happen to have a "bad day/cheat day." I also don't punish myself or feel guilty for eating an occasional treat. It’s easy to get discouraged if you slip up or have a sweet craving, but that doesn’t mean you have LOST, nor does it mean you have to punish and kill yourself at the gym the next day. I have learned so much and am so thankful that I actually made the initial appointment and have continued my journey even after 2 years!
