What made you decide to have weight loss surgery? My final straw was I had pre-diabetes indicators and finally realized the path I was traveling could one day kill me. I am a single mom, and the thought of leaving my daughter broke my heart. I decided I needed to change for me and for her!

How long did it take for you to decide to have weight loss surgery? I had thought about it for years but had had a bad c-section experience. Once my weight was out of control, I decided it was time to put that fear behind me and get out of my comfort zone.

Did anyone either encourage or discourage you from having surgery? I had a mix of both. Many people didn't like/understand that this wasn't a diet fad that goes away.  Instead, it's a life commitment/change if you choose to use the tools given. Many didn't like the idea of small meal portions, but I loved it. I had problems with binge eating, and now I don't struggle with that at all. Of course, many people were also supportive!

What do you wish you'd known before the surgery? I wish I would have mentally prepared myself on how to handle quick changes to my body. I went from the girl people didn't compliment to the girl who was always getting nice things said about how the changes looked good. The world changed when I wasn't severely obese anymore.

What things are you able to do now that may have been difficult or impossible before surgery? I have no limitations to any physical activities now. I can run, I can keep up with everything. I fit on all amusement park rides, and I even found the confidence to try a gym recently!

Which conditions or diseases have you seen decrease or disappear since your surgery? I had high blood pressure before the surgery, and about 4 months post-op I was able to completely get off all medications!

How has surgery altered your outlook on life, your emotions, and/or relationships? I am so happy with life, and I have a whole new perspective on how life should be lived and to live it to the fullest!

Why did you decide to have surgery with Dr. Eibes?  It was recommended by a friend who had the same surgery, also with great results.

What would you say about Dr. Eibes and his team?  I can't say enough wonderful things - the staff has become such a safe place for me, and I love seeing them all with my quarter check-ins!

What would you tell someone who is considering weight loss surgery? Don't let the fear of surgery stop you from getting your life back! My only regret is not doing it sooner!
