What made you decide to have weight loss surgery? I spent all of my life being overweight and was seeing the negative effects of living this life style. I was 34 years old and a mother of three. Being overweight and a mother of three overly active children made me see how much the extra weight was hindering my life with my children as well as my overall health. I was sad and depressed and hated myself for the way I looked.
How long did it take for you to decide to have weight loss surgery? It did not take me long to make the decision. I was willing to do anything for a fresh start at my own well being
Did anyone either encourage or discourage you from having surgery? I had an employee who had the surgery well before me. She highly recommend I do so. She had all positive things to say as well
as seeing her results first hand.
What do you wish you'd known before the surgery? I felt I was overly educated on the whole process. The team at Iowa Weight Loss goes above and beyond to make sure you understand the whole process.
What things are you able to do now that may have been difficult or impossible before surgery? The things I can do now are endless. I was in a horrific marriage where I was emotionally abused and just stayed because I felt there was nothing I could do. That no one would ever love me. I now am proud to say that I have been divorced for three years and couldn’t be happier. I can now do one of the most important things in life. I can smile! I am truly happier with myself and I am confident in who I am.
Which conditions or diseases have you seen decrease or disappear since your surgery? Previous to my surgery I had sleep apnea, horrific acid reflux, and had a hiatal hernia in my esophagus. I no longer have issues with any of those.
How has surgery altered your outlook on life, your emotions, and/or relationships? I have had a complete change in my entire life. I was given the opportunity to start over and that’s exactly what I did.
Why did you decide to have surgery with Dr. Eibes? The office was highly recommend by friends of mine.
What would you say about Dr. Eibes and his team? Absolutely amazing!!
What would you tell someone who is considering weight loss surgery? You need to make sure that you take the information given to you and be ready to make a complete change to your habits and
lifestyle. If you don’t make the appropriate changes to your eating habits then you will gain the weight back. You need to make sure you understand that the surgery is a tool to help you get to where you want to be. However, you are in control and if you don’t change the way you eat then it will be a waste because you will gain it back and be right back in the same position.
